New Years Resolution: Bake More

Tonight, my husband and I chose to stay at home with our sweet dog and watch movies, cook, bake and just relax instead of heading out and partying to bring in the New Year. As we are planning to watch Ohio State beat Oregon tomorrow in the Rose Bowl, I decided that baking and decorating some OSU/football-themed sugar cookies would be a good fun project for the night.

Buttercream Frosting, How I Love You

After Duncan Hines bested me with their Lemon Cake Box mix, I was determined to do better with the frosting and decorating of the cake. I started off with the recipe for Buttercream Frosting listed in my Wilton Cake Decorating – Class 1 booklet.

Duncan Hines – 1, Me – 0

Since I wanted to play around with the many decorating tools I received as Christmas gifts, I opted to go the quick and easy baking route with a Duncan Hines Lemon Cake mixture. I made doubly sure I had measured the ingredients absolutely perfectly and even set the timer on our oven to make sure I mixed for approximately thirty seconds and then for two minutes on ‘medium’ in our black Kitchen-Aid mixer.

Indulging My New Passion

Happily, I received the very start to my new free-time passion: cake decorating supplies! I received a bunch of Wilton goodies, perfect for starting off with buttercream frosting decorating and moving into fondant and gumpaste a little later.

The Start of an Obsession

For as long as I can remember I’ve always absolutely loved baking. I can still remember back to those days in which I helped bake chocolate chip cookies and other bakery yummies with my mother, fueled by my desire to lick any unused dough off of the mixer beater-bars.
